I am a Psoriasis patient. I have had the condition for over ten years and other than 3 courses of light treatment I mainly have to use topical treatments. These treatments are often oily, greasy and very sticky. They can at times make my skin feel even more uncomfortable. Sometimes my skin feels warmer after use, which you may know isn’t comfortable for a psoriasis patient as we can often feel our skin warming up just from the condition.
The good we get from using these treatments really isn’t enough. This condition attacks our very souls and can cause severe mental health problems. Having to put something on your skin, which not only adds to the discomfort, it also reminds us each time of how horrible it is to have this condition and go through the process of slapping on thick gloopy ointments every day.
Then there is also the time is takes to dry or at least have your skin feel half normal again. I would never sleep to give me time before getting dressed in the morning and then go through the process again at night so as not to make my bedding stained with grease. In fact, as I work in an office there is no way I can use my treatment of a morning, it would ruin my shirts.
Now this seems like a moan, okay I guess it is in part. I know you are making medicines to treat us and improve our condition. It seems that many of the treatments have been around for a long long time and surely you can improve their application. I can point you in the direction of Betnovate Scalp Application. It’s watery, not too oily or greasy and dries very quickly. As long as you let it dry it doesn’t stain either. How do I know this? Because in sheer desperation I used it all over my body. The results were startling, after two days I noticed my skin improving. Of course I know I shouldn’t do it and I have stopped, I just wanted to try it.
So if a scalp application can be made, why can we not have a similar application for the rest of our skin. Something that doesn’t make us feel sticky and uncomfortable, something that may help us fight the mental side of this condition. Now before anyone mention Dovobet Gel, that’s just as bad as the ointment, it’s still greasy and stains clothes so much you can’t get it out. I can show you a shirt with a nice grease patch on the back if you like.
It is very good of you to work on producing products to help clear our skin, I am truly grateful. If you could develop the application I, and I would think most psoriasis patients (there’s quite a few of us so the market is there), would be even more grateful. I’m not even asking for a cure, just a change. As there is a move to recognise the mental issues and standard of life of psoriasis patients, it would be great if you joined in and helped us out.
I am not a scientist and I am sure there are factors that have to be taken into account when putting a topical treatment together, this is just a request, well it’s more of a plea. Thank you for your time.
Yours uncomfortably and itchy
